Lyn Benjamin memorial planned for Sunday
January 16, 2013

Update: See below for service specifics and flower arraignments.

The following is from the Friends of the Teton River:

Lyn Benjamin passed away peacefully at her home on January 15, 2013, after a battle with cancer.  She was surrounded by family and close friends.

As the founding Executive Director of FTR, Lyn left an indelible mark on the Teton Watershed.  In 2001, Lyn helped to convene a group of conservationists, farmers, guides and outfitters, research scientists, agency representatives, and citizens concerned about the future of the Teton River.  This group of more than 30 individuals worked together to define a set of action steps that became the mission statement for Friends of the Teton River.

Lyn’s vision of creating a healthy watershed through science-based action and collaboration has been realized in many ways over the past 12 years.  Perhaps most importantly, as Lyn noted in a 2010 interview, “Water has become a household conversation. We used to operate from Mark Twain’s quote that whiskey is for drinking and water is for fighting over.  But we have found that, at least here in the Teton Watershed, water can truly bring people together.”

Lyn stepped down as the organization’s Executive Director in the fall of 2010, and spent her last years reconnecting with the rivers, wild places, and people that inspired her work.

A memorial service has been scheduled for Sunday, January 20, at 2 p.m. at River Rim Ranch.

Memories and condolences may be sent to Lyn’s mother, Mrs. Haydene Benjamin, at:
